  • Southside Drive in Yosemite Valley, including vehicle access to Cathedral Beach, Sentinel Beach, and Swinging Bridge Picnic Areas, will be closed for road work from September 2 through October 30. Northside Drive east of El Capitan is open to two-way traffic for access to eastern Yosemite Valley.
  • Brief delays (due to construction) are possible when entering/exiting Yosemite Valley.
  • The Tuolumne Meadows gas station will be closed until October 6 at noon.

Seasonal Information

  • Rivers & Waterfalls: Yosemite Falls is dry. Vernal, Nevada, and Bridalveil Falls have very low flows.
  • Bears: Bears are still active and getting food from people (and their cars): be sure to store your food properly!
  • Fire: A prescribed fire may occur in October in Yosemite Valley. More information...
 

Lodging & Other Concessions

Yosemite Lodge, Curry Village, Housekeeping Camp, and the The Ahwahnee are open in Yosemite Valley. Wawona Hotel is open. Tuolumne Meadows and White Wolf Lodges are closed.

Campgrounds

  • Yosemite Valley: Upper and North Pines Campgrounds are open; reservations are required. Lower Pines Campground closes on October 13. Camp 4 is open on a first-come, first-served basis. 
  • Outside Yosemite Valley: Hodgdon Meadow and Wawona Campgrounds are open on a first-come, first-served basis. Crane Flat Campground closes October 13; Porcupine Flat Campground closes October 15. Tamarack Flat, White Wolf, Yosemite Creek, and Bridalveil Creek Campgrounds are closed for the season. Estimated closing dates in 2008 for all campgrounds are available.

Reservations are available up to five months in advance.

 

 
 

All park trails are open:

  • The Half Dome cables are up. They will remain up, conditions permitting, through October 14. They are usually reinstalled just before the third weekend in May. (Learn more about the Half Dome hike.)

Did You Know?
Yosemite Falls is fed mostly by snowmelt. Peak flow usually happens in late May, but by August, Yosemite Falls is often dry. It begins flowing again a few months later, after winter snows arrive.
