Storm Damage
Storms throughout the year can blow down trees throughout the wooded sections of or have flooded trails in Point Reyes National Seashore. If you encounter any downed trees, please report them to the Bear Valley Visitor Center (415-464-5100 x2 x5) or to Bill Michaels (415-464-5157). Please provide as many details as possible, i.e., exact location of the tree on which trail, type of tree (bay, fir, etc.), whether it is bushy or straight, its size and diameter, whether it is on the ground or elevated, whether equestrians can get around it.
Currently, no trails are known to be blocked by downed trees.
If you have recently hiked any of the trails in Point Reyes National Seashore and found the trail conditions other than what is reported here, please email us to let us know. Thanks for your assistance.

Area Road Closures

Repairs have been completed to Highway 1 near Dogtown
During a winter storm, a section of Highway 1 about 9 miles south of Bear Valley/Olema and a short distance north of Dogtown and the McCurdy Trailhead was undermined and one lane of the highway slumped away. The California Department of Transportation has recently completed repairs and has removed the traffic control devices at this location.

Beach Closures
Due to the Cosco Busan oil spill, beaches in Point Reyes National Seashore may be temporarily closed to the public at any time. Please observe all closure signs. Please do not approach or pick up bunker fuel or an oiled animal. Bunker fuel is an extremely toxic substance and is dangerous to all animals, including humans. ONLY hazardous materials-trained and equipped personnel should handle bunker fuel or oiled wildlife. Instead, contact Point Reyes Dispatch at 415-464-5170 if you find any oil or oiled birds.

Campground Closures
Coast and Sky Campgrounds are scheduled to be closed for resource restoration work between Monday, January 21, 2008 and Friday, February 8, 2008. No reservations will be taken for these campgrounds for these dates.

Road Closures
Trail Closures
Museum, Archives and Library Collections
The museum, archives and library collections will be closed for research from January 30-June 30, 2008. We regret any inconvenience for this temporary closure. We will reopen on July 1, 2008.
Visitor Center Closures
All Visitor Centers will be closed on December 25. Visitor Centers usually close at 2 p.m. on the day before Thanksgiving and on December 24. The Lighthouse Visitor Center is closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays, open Thursday through Monday. The Ken Patrick Visitor Center is closed Monday through Friday, open Saturday, Sunday, and holidays.

Did You Know?
Coast Miwok people have lived in the Point Reyes vicinity for over 4,000 years. They lived in villages similar to Kule Loklo, which is located near the Bear Valley Visitor Center.
