Weather-related road and facility closures may change throughout the day. For updated road and weather information please call (865) 436-1200. Once you hear a voice, dial extension 631 for road information or extension 630 for a weather forecast. You may wish to write this number down when traveling to the area for handy reference for road and weather updates. This webpage is updated 2-3 times a week. For the most current report, please call the number listed above.

Temporary Closures 
• Newfound Gap Road (US-441) is subject to closures at night due to ice forming on the road surface as the temperature drops in the evening.
• Old NC-284 between Big Creek and Cataloochee.
• Cades Cove Loop Road is tentatively scheduled to be closed on December 3-4 for hemlock woolly adelgid spraying. Closure dates may be adjusted due to weather. Additional details.

Road Construction
• Gatlinburg Spur of Foothills Parkway (US 441) between Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. Construction is expected to be completed in March 2009.

Visitors can often spot bears in trees at the edges of forests.  

Did You Know?
Approximately 1,500 black bears live in the park. This equals a population density of approximately two bears per square mile. Bears can be found throughout the park, but are easiest to spot in open areas such as Cades Cove and Cataloochee Valley.
