Seasonal Road Schedule
 

Primary roads such as US-441 (Newfound Gap Road), Little River Road, and the Cades Cove Loop Road are open year round, weather permitting. Click for information about temporary weather and construction related road closures of these roads.

Secondary roads are subject to seasonal closures. Seasonal  opening and closing dates for secondary roads are listed below:

• Balsam Mountain  
Closed for the winter. Scheduled to reopen in May 2009. Buses, RVs and motorhomes prohibited on this one-way, gravel road.

• Cades Cove Loop Road
Open all year from sunrise until sunset
This road will be closed to motor vehicles on Wednesday and Saturday mornings until 10:00 a.m. from early May through late September to allow bicyclists and pedestrians to enjoy the cove.

Clingmans Dome
Closed for the winter. Scheduled to reopen in April 2009.

Little Greenbrier
Open March 7-December 31, 2008.

• Heintooga Ridge Road
Closed for the winter. Scheduled to reopen in May 2009.

Parson Branch
Closed for the winter. Scheduled to reopen in March 2009. Buses, RVs and motorhomes are prohibited on this one-way, gravel road.

Rich Mountain
Closed for the winter. Scheduled to reopen in March 2009. Buses, RVs and motorhomes are prohibited on this one-way road.

Roaring Fork
Closed for the winter. Scheduled to reopen in March 2009.
Buses, RVs and motorhomes are prohibited on this road.

Roundbottom/Straight Fork
Closed for the winter. Scheduled to reopen in March 2009.

Barn at the Mountain Farm Museum at Oconaluftee Visitor Center.  

Did You Know?
The barn at the Mountain Farm Museum at Oconaluftee Visitor Center is over 50 feet wide and 60 feet long. A modern 2,500 square foot home would fit in the upstairs loft of the barn and over 16,000 hand-split wooden shingles are required to roof it.
