The actual terrestrial acreage of Virgin Islands National Park occupies a little more than half of St. John. Approximately 5,650 of adjacent submerged lands are included in the Park as well. The map featured in the Park's brochure depicts the authorized boundary, properties that Park owned, and within the authorized boundary that are privately owed.

 

Virgin Islands National Park maintains 20 trails and provides a hiking guide, which depicts the trails (page 1) and a description of each (page 2), including distance (one way) and approximate hiking time.

Stop by the Visitor Center in Cruz Bay, get a brochure and trail map, and enjoy exploring the Park.

Did You Know?
The mangrove forests found along the coastline in some bays serve as nursery habitats for juvenile fish. These beautiful trees with aerial roots provide filtration of the runoff and reduce the amount of sediment reaching the ocean. The Red Mangrove is one of several species found in the Park.
