Climate:

Sunny, with humid, rainy periods throughout the year. Sudden and severe thunderstorms are common, especially during the summer months. Mild winters (December-February) with lows sometimes below 32°F. Summers (May-September) are hot and humid. Daily temperatures can exceed 90°F, with humidity ranging from 75-100%.

In addition to wearing comfortable sportswear according to season, walking or hiking shoes are recommended.

Location:

Warren County, west-central Mississippi and Madison Parish, northeast Louisiana. The park entrance is 1/4-mile north of Interstate 20, off Exit 4B.

Park Creation:

Vicksburg National Military Park was established on February 21, 1899. It was the fifth national military park created by Congress. Ownership was transferred from the U.S. Department of War to the U.S. Department of the Interior on August 10, 1933. It is the eighth oldest national park in the United States.
