Tasting History

The Kino Heritage Fruit Trees Project

Jesús García

Jesús García

Jesús M. García, Education Specialist at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum will talk about the process and methods being used for the re-establishment of the Tumacácori Mission Orchard. He will talk about the travels around southern and northern Arizona, Sonora, New Mexico, and the rugged mountains of Baja California in search of Colonial era fruit trees. Also, Jesus will talk about the process of collecting, grafting and cultivating cuttings and seedlings at Desert Survivors Nursery. The stories of this process will help the listener appreciate the inter-relatedness of the Tumacácori orchard site with other Kino Missions in the Pimería Alta and the current cultural, horticultural, and culinary practices still being used in our region.

Come and taste, literally, a bit of history and connect with the past through your taste buds.

The lecture will take place in the old Mission Church at Tumacácori National Historical Park.
