The National Park Service does not sponsor reenactments, but visitors will have a number of opportunities to see demonstrations of Civil War weapons and material culture while learning more about the people affected by the Battle of Stones River. Check the Schedule of Events for program times and detailed program descriptions.

December 26, 2008 to January 2, 2009: 146th Anniversary Programs - Join rangers and volunteers for a variety of walks, talks, tours and living history demonstrations that will tell the story of one of the most significant battles of the Civil War, the Battle of Stones River. The highlight of the programs will be a series of living history presentations and weapons demonstrations on December 27-28, 2008.

February 28, 2009: The Camp of Instruction (Infantry) - Visitors to Stones River National Battlefield will get the chance to watch as new volunteers learn to be soldiers while a ranger tells the story of how the armies of a nation divided began.

March 28, 2009: The Camp of Instruction (Artillery) - Visitors to Stones River National Battlefield will get the chance to watch as new volunteers learn to be soldiers while a ranger tells the story of how the armies of a nation divided began.

May 2-3, 2009: The Ohio Valley Civil War Association - Join these special volunteers as they present programs and demonstrations on many facets of civilian and military life during the Civil War. Some of the featured programs will be the Nineteenth U.S. Infantry, the Signal Corps, and the U.S. Sanitary Commission.

June 6-7, 2009: There Are Many Sides to a Story - Visitors will hear multiple viewpoints from soldiers and civilians as they describe the Battle of Stones River and other Civil War events in Murfreesboro. Some programs will include historic weapons demonstrations.

July 18-19, 2009: Artillery Battery Programs - Six cannons will fire at at 10 AM, 11 AM, 1 PM, 2 PM and 3 PM on Saturday (July 18th) and 10 AM, 11 AM, 1 PM and 2 PM on Sunday (July 19th).

August 8-9, 2009: Rosecrans' Last Gambit: The Pioneer Brigade and the Chicago Board of Trade Battery at Stones River - Learn more about two unique federal units that played a key role in the battle while watching infantry and artillery demonstrations.

September 12-13, 2009: Fighting for Home and Hearth - Visitors will get a chance to watch Confederate infantry and artillery demonstrations and hear the stories of local soldiers and their families.

October 17-18, 2009: Fortress Rosecrans Encampment - Soldiers and civilians will tell their stories of the Federal occupation of Murfreesboro. Some programs will include historic weapons demonstrations.

December 12-13, 2009: Remembering The Battle of the Cedars - Visitors will listen as a Union and Confederate soldier share their stories of the last Civil War battle near Murfreesboro, the Battle of the Cedars. Each program will include a musket firing demonstration.

December 26, 2009 to January 3, 2010: 147th Anniversary Programs - Join rangers and volunteers for a variety of walks, talks, tours and living history demonstrations that will tell the story of one of the most significant battles of the Civil War, the Battle of Stones River. The highlight of the programs will be a series of living history presentations and weapons demonstrations on January 2-3, 2010.
