Liberty Enlightening the World

Located on a 12 acre island, the Statue of Liberty Enlightening the World was a gift of friendship from the people of France to the people of the United States and is a universal symbol of freedom and democracy. The Statue of Liberty was dedicated on October 28, 1886, designated as a National Monument in 1924 and restored for her centennial on July 4, 1986.

Ticket Reservation System at the Statue of Liberty

Planning ahead is essential to making the most of your visit to the Statue of Liberty. Here is important information you’ll need to prepare for and plan your visit;

  • Ticket Reservation System: Get all the details on reserving tickets to the pedestal, crown and Liberty Island from Statue Cruises. Choose which visit fits your schedule and interests. Access to the crown begins on July 4, 2009. Call 1-877-LADY-TIX or book tickets on-line at: www.statuecruises.com 
  • Most Frequently Asked Questions -Reserving Tickets to Visit the Crown: We get a lot of questions about visiting the crown of the Statue of Liberty and the reservation system. This list covers the most frequently asked question.
  • Security Screening: Visitors to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island must pass through security screening (similar to airport security procedures) before boarding the ferry system and entering the monument. There can be wait times at these screening areas.

Ellis Island - Part of Statue of Liberty

Ellis Island is part of the Statue of Liberty National Monument. It was added to the National Park System in May of 1965 and through extensive restoration, its main building opened over a quarter century later on September 10, 1990 as a national museum of immigration. Did You Know?
The French ship "Isere" transported the Statue of Liberty's 300 copper pieces packed in 214 crates to America. Although the ship nearly sank in rough seas, it arrived in New York on June 17, 1885. The Statue's parts remained unassembled for nearly a year until the pedestal was completed in 1886.
