The Selma to Montgomery National Historic Trail was established by Congress in 1996 to commemorate the events, people, and route of the 1965 Voting Rights March in Alabama. The route is also designated as a National Scenic Byway/All-American Road.

Did You Know?
"Tent City" refers to a temporary dwelling used by approximately twenty African-American tenant farmers in Lowndes County, Alabama who tried to used their right to vote, and were evicted from their homes by White landowners. Some of the families lived on this land for up to two years.
