Fire Danger

Wildfires are not a common event along the St. Croix and Namekagon Rivers, but they do happen.  When conditions are dry from a lack of rainfall and/or high temperatures, the states of Wisconsin and Minnesota sometimes place restrictions on campfires.  This may include campfires in fire rings at Riverway Campsites.

Before camping on the river, check the fire danger level.  Help protect the Riverway and people's homes from Forest Fires.

A very narrow insect with skinny legs and a tail

Did You Know?
Water scorpions use their tails or siphons as a a "snorkel" thrusting it up through the surface film on the water to the air above. Their legs are not much use in swimming, so most water scorpions spend life near the shoreline.
