More Extreme Fire Danger Thursday, September 4, 2008, for Marin's National Parks
Based on this afternoon’s weather and vegetation conditions, fire danger at Point Reyes National Seashore and Golden Gate National Recreation Area lands in Marin County will be rated as "Extreme" again tomorrow, Thursday, September 4. The Bay Area Air Quality Management District has also declared tomorrow a "Spare the Air Day" due to a forecast of hot temperatures and light winds which will combine to produce poor air quality with potentially unhealthy ground-level ozone pollution.

To celebrate the second phase of construction of the Giacomini Wetland Restoration Project, the Point Reyes National Seashore Association and the Point Reyes National Seashore are hosting a series of field seminars. The seminars will be held on the fourth Saturday of every month, starting on Saturday, August 23, 2008, and are open to the public at no cost.

Coastal Watershed Restoration Project Final Phase Starts Next Week
The park is initiating the second and final year of the Coastal Watershed Restoration Project, which includes replacement or removal of culverts and fish passage problems within the Drakes Estero watershed.  The project will restore natural stream process and improve fish passage in a number of creeks, which will benefit federally threatened steelhead trout, and potentially endangered coho salmon.

Three fire departments in West Marin which have mutual aid agreements with the National Park Service have been awarded $34,000 in grants through the Rural Fire Assistance Program (RFA).

The National Park Service (Park Service), California State Lands Commission (CSLC), and Point Reyes National Seashore Association (PRNSA) have secured the necessary permits for construction of Phase II and have selected a contractor. Phase II of the restoration project is now scheduled to start on July 16, 2008.
