Road Status Update - June 9, 2009
Effective at 12 noon on Wednesday, June 10, Alger County Road H-58 will be closed from Hurricane River Campground west to Kingston Lake. Twelvemile Beach Campground is closed.
On June 26, H-58 between Hurricane River and Twelvemile Beach Campground will reopen.
Until mid-August 2009, H-58 is closed to through traffic from Little Beaver Lake Road to M-77. Local traffic is permitted to state forest campgrounds (Canoe, Cusino, Ross, North and South Gemini Lakes).
H-58 is currently closed from Kingston Corners (junction of H-58 and Adams Trail) north to Twelvemile Beach Campground. No date has been set for reopening at this time.
Hurricane River Campground is open but only accessible via H-58 through Grand Marais.
Effective June 15 to August 15, Kingston Lake Campground will be closed.

During 2009 and 2010, the Alger County Road Commission will re-construct and pave 18 miles of Alger County Road H-58 from the entrance to Little Beaver Lake Campground Road to one-half mile east of Hurricane River Campground.
During 2009, Twelvemile Beach Campground and Hurricane River Campground will be open but only accessible from the east (Grand Marais). Road conditions may limit travel beyond Hurricane River and at times Twelvemile Beach Campground will be closed.
East and west bound traffic is discouraged between Little Beaver Lake Campground Road and M-77 (via H-58 and Adams Trail) due to construction. This road section will frequently be closed.
H-58 from Kingston Corners (junction of H-58 and Adams Trail) north to Hurricane River is closed.

Visitors entering the lakeshore from the east (Grand Marais)
will be able to travel as far as Hurricane River campground and sometimes to Twelvemile Beach Campground.
To access the western portion of the lakeshore (such as Little Beaver Lake Campground, Miners Castle, and Sand Point), visitors must travel to Munising on M-77 and M-28, then travel east on H-58. (Or - at Shingleton - turn north on H-15 to H-58 at Van Meer.)
Visitors entering the lakeshore from the west (Munising)
will be able to access areas up to and including the Little Beaver Lake Campground and Michigan DNR campgrounds (Ross, Canoe, Cusino, North and South Gemini Lakes).
To reach the attractions in the eastern portion of the Lakeshore, visitors must travel to Grand Marais on M-28 and M-77 then travel west on H-58.
