Images of the Pinnacles California condor flock from the CondorCam. These images were taken with a hidden camera that biologists use to monitor the health of the Pinnacles condors.
A hidden condor camera near one of the feeding sites is now taking still photos of all of the free-flying condors at Pinnacles National Monument as they balance on a scale, which has been disguised as a comfortable perch. The CondorCam allows biologists to track the weight of the birds, which gives an indication of physical health because birds will maintain body weight if all is well.
Biologists can also learn whether the transmitters located on their wings are intact and, and if the birds have acquired food from outside the park. Some other activities you will be witnessing are condors preening their feathers, fighting with other condors for the opportunity to stay on the scale, and other species investigating the perch.
