The Petrified Forest National Park Science and Education Center was established to bring park visitors and researchers together to foster understanding and appreciation of the natural and cultural resources of the park and the Colorado Plateau. Lectures are held the first Wednesday of each month on a variety of topics including geology, paleontology, archaeology, and biology.

Jennifer McLerran, Museum Curator, University Professor and author of A New Deal for Native Art: Indian Arts and Federal Policy 1933-1943 (University of Arizona Press, 2009), will present “The New Deal at the Petrified Forest.” McLerran’s talk will focus on New Deal programs in and around Petrified Forest National Park. The activities and policies of the Civilian Conservation Corps, the National Park Service and the Bureau of Indian Affairs and how they impacted the park’s development will be explored.
Lectures are held in the Petrified Forest National Park Community Building located within the Painted Desert Community Complex off Interstate-40 at Exit 311. Stop at the Visitor Center for more information.
Admission is free and the public is welcome to attend!
