The park is an outdoor laboratory for Samoan schools and it offers opportunity for guided field trips. For detailed information contact the park superintendent or resource manager at (684) 633-7082.

Too, the park and its staff can be a local true-life example in the value of applying oneself in school. Three quarters of the national park staff are local Samoans. Currently, two of them have specialist college degrees enabling them to excel in very responsible division-chief jobs at the park.

Pacific golden plover in breeding plumage—soon to be flying 5,500 miles to the Alaskan Arctic

Did You Know?
During northern summers, three shorebirds--plover, turnstone, and tattler--nest in Alaska and northern Canada. After nesting, they fly non-stop over 3,000 miles of open ocean to Hawaii. After briefly resting there, they fly more thousands of miles to Samoa. The round-trip is 11,000 miles.
