Designations
National Scenic Trail - March 5, 1980

The North Country National Scenic Trail is administered by the National Park Service in accordance with the National Trails System Act. The  goal of the Park Service is to fully develop the North Country Trail as a premier hiking and backpacking trail which is nationally significant in its scenic and recreational qualities.

Did You Know?
That Mackinac Island became America's second national park in 1875. It remained a national park until it was transferred to the State of Michigan in 1895. Yellowstone became the first national park in 1872. The island can be viewed from the North Country National Scenic Trail.
