Peregrine Falcon 2006

In 2006, 15 nestling peregrine falcons were released over the course of three separate release events or hacks. Following release, only one falcon vacated the general hack area or postfledging area (PFA) in less than the recommended threshold of 14 days. This two week criteria is used because it is a critical period when the juvenile falcons are highly susceptible to mortality from other birds of prey, etc. The release success exhibited at NERI of nearly 94% may have been the highest documented for hacked peregrine falcons since national recovery efforts were initiated in the 1970s.
