Date: October 25, 2008

Natchez Trace Parkway officials announce that construction has begun to replace the Parkway bridge at milepost 203.6 over Pigeon Roost Creek - just south of U.S. Highway 82. This bridge, constructed in 1956, has experienced severe deterioration in recent years and needs replacing. The replacement project began on October 1, 2008, and is expected to be completed by the end of 2009. RAFCO Construction Company of Columbia, Mississippi, is the construction contractor.

In order to continue providing traffic flow through the area, a small on-site detour around the bridge will channel traffic through the construction site. Travelers should expect slight delays in this area, and a short section of reduced speed limit to 35 mph, due to the tight curves and close proximity to the bridge construction. The Natchez Trace Parkway asks the traveling public to reduce speeds through this construction zone and to please be alert for construction equipment, trucks, and workers at the bridge replacement site.
