Permits

Many activities in the Park require a permit such as:

  • Weddings
  • 1st Amendment Activities
  • Public Assemblies and Meetings
  • Scientific Research
  • Other Special Events (festivals, sporting events, etc.)

Applications for Special Use Permits should be submitted at least two weeks in advance of the activity, more if the activity entails significant impacts to park operations.

A complete list of these activities can be found in the Superintendent's compendium.

Note:  All areas of the park are open to scattering of ashes without a permit.

Hoary Marmot

Did You Know?
The Hoary Marmot is the largest member of the ground squirrels. These guys hibernate half or more of their life away. They have very thick fur and a substantial fat layer that protects them from the cold. You are not as likely to see them on hot days as they hide in the shade to keep cool.
