Educational Opportunities Through the National Park Service

• Hubbell Trading Post NHS welcomes student visitation and is ready to accommodate various educational standards
• Park resources can often be helpful tools for teachers to accomplish educational goals

  Traveling Trunks are available from many parks and the cost is usually limited to postage.

  Materials to loan may be restricted to certain uses or certain areas of the country, and available in limited quantities.

  Distance Learning may allow certain parks to share curriculum-based programming about the park with your students through the web, audio or video conferencing. 

• Hubbell Trading Post NHS offers Ranger led interpretive programs and other opportunities for students to understand the importance of natural and cultural heritage. 
• Lesson plans have been prepared for different learning styles and audiences:  

  o        National Park Service

  o        Hubbell Trading Post (Social Studies and Economics)

  o        Environmental Studies: Cloud Study (Using Globe curricula www.globe.gov)

  o        Environmental Studies: Local Plants

  o        Environmental Studies: Soils Field Study

  o        Environmental Studies: PuebloColoradoWash

• To augment the curriculum we have various fieldguides and students may participate in the Hubble Trading Post Junior Ranger program.
• A National Park Service goal is to instill an enthusiasm and respect for the environment.
• Many parks are now offering information and curriculum-based activity guides on-line.
• Interactive programming on the internet at www.nps.gov provides virtual field trips, research information, teacher and kid resources, fun and games.
