Homestead Congress is a Friends of Homestead National Monument of America program dedicated to communicating with those persons interested in learning more about the mission of Homestead National Monument of America and the effect it had on the growth of this nation.  To meet its communication goal, Homestead Congress maintains a blog site.

Share Your Homestead Story: The Homestead Act of 1862 provided a robust opportunity for westward development of this country. Needs of the homesteaders were great. Those needs were also the needs of the country's westward expansion; resulting in an explosion of inventions, industrial applications, and developments in agriculture, finance, art, photography, communications, transportation, medicine and much more. There were many outcomes, good and bad, that occurred as a result of westward expansion. More than half of the homesteaders failed to "prove up" their claim. There are many stories of success, failure, and change. These are the stories the Homestead Congress wants to receive. Please send us your stories about the your family's experiences as homesteaders or experiences that occurred as a result of the Homestead Act of 1862. Send them to homesteadcongress@gmail.com These one page remembrances will be shared with all others who send in their e-mail addresses. It is a big story, the Homestead Congress wants to help create a better awareness of the Homestead Act of 1862 and Homestead National Monument of America, the one site mandated by Congress to tell this story.
