Southeast Community College and Homestead National Monument of America Partner to Host July 2009 Land Records and Genealogy Symposium

Southeast Community College and Homestead National Monument of America will once again partner to host the Land Records and Genealogy Symposium on Friday and Saturday, July 10-11, 2009. This will be the fifth such collaboration between the two organizations. The symposium will take place at Southeast Community College’s Continuing Education Center located at 301 South 68th Street Place in Lincoln, Nebraska. This event is intended for anyone interested in homesteading history, land records, and genealogical research.

Speakers and topics this year will include:
Peter Drinkwater, Director of Product Management at Footnote.com, speaking on "Introduction to Footnote.com" and "Finding and Using Homestead Records on Footnote.com."

Richard Sayre, CG, M.A., lecturing on "Federal Land Records: A New Guide" and co-presenting "Google Earth for Genealogists."

Pamela Boyer Sayre, CG, CGL, speaking about "Pathways to Success: How to Learn New Things" and co-presenting "Google Earth for Genealogists."

Gregory Boyd, J.D., owner of Arphax Publishing, discussing "Family Maps" and "More Skeletons than You Can Count."

The keynote speaker will be Dr. Kenneth Heger, Chief of the Archives I Support Branch, National Archives and Records Administration. His address will be "Farms, Banks, and Factories: The Homestead Act and Changes in America."

As always, all in attendance will receive lunches and entertainment as part of Southeast Community College’s registration fee. There will also be an evening reception at Homestead National Monument of America on Friday evening, July 10.
