Pets must be leashed at all times. On the South Rim, leashed pets are allowed on trails above the rim, Mather Campground, Desert View Campground, Trailer Village and throughout the developed areas.
Pets are not permitted below the rim, in park lodging (hotel rooms), or on park buses. The only exception would be a service animal. Persons wishing to take a service animal below the rim must check-in first at the Backcountry Information Center.
On the North Rim pets are not allowed other than the bridle path that connects the lodge with the North Kaibab Trail.
A kennel is available at the South Rim only. It is open daily from 7:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

John Hance, early Grand Canyon guide and storyteller, said of the Canyon, "It was hard work, took a long time, but I dug it myself, with a pick and a shovel. If you want to know what I done with the dirt, just look south through a clearin' in the trees at what they call the San Francisco Peaks."
