Two Missing in Boating Accident on Lake Powell

Page, AZ – On Saturday, April 25th, at approximately 5:00 p.m. (Arizona Time) Glen Canyon National Recreation Area (NRA) dispatch was notified of an overdue boating party of six persons on Lake Powell. An NPS ranger soon after located and rescued two individuals on shore at Padre Butte. They were treated for hypothermia.

Two deceased members of the boating party have been recovered.

The survivors reported that the boat they were in sank after taking on water in a wind storm. Cause of the accident is still under investigation.

The NPS immediately began an intensive search for the missing members of the boating party. Rangers conducted a search using boats, fixed-wing aircraft, and a helicopter. Two persons remain missing.

The search was conducted until dark and resumed early Sunday morning. The search is being conducted with the assistance of Kane County, UT, Sheriff’s Office, San Juan County, UT, Sheriff’s Office, and Utah State Parks.
