A Friday night fire at Wahweap Marina on Lake Powell resulted in the sinking of two boats.

A National Park Service ranger returning from patrol at 11:23 p.m. Friday night noticed flames from one of the boat docks at Wahweap Marina. The ranger immediately radioed Glen Canyon dispatch and went into action to isolate the fire by removing surrounding boats from the two boats that were on fire. An NPS fire crew soon arrived on scene with a fire engine and a fire boat. The City of Page Fire Department also responded to the blaze.

The blaze was brought under control in approximately thirty minutes. Two privately owned 37-foot cabin cruisers were lost due to the blaze. The actions of the park ranger and the quick response time to the fire prevented additional damage to the docks and other boats in the marina.

The NPS ranger was the first on scene and the first responder. Aramark is conducting the clean-up associated with the fire. Coconino County is leading the investigation into the cause of the fire.
