Dinosaur National Monument offers Interpretation Intern positions each summer. These internship positions work with paid and volunteer staff to provide interpretive programs and visitor services to monument visitors. These positions work 40 hour per week with consecutive days off. Internship positions are not limited to students. These positions open to anyone interested.
Position Overview:
Interpretive interns are a primary contact for visitors to Dinosaur National Monument. Interns are responsible for staffing the visitor center and providing orientation and informational services to visitors.
Both visitor centers are outlets for the Intermountain Natural History Association bookstore, the monument’s educational partner. Interns assist with bookstore sales including operating a cash register or computer-based point-of-sale system, receiving monies, making correct change, and occasionally completing documentation about sales.
Interns research, develop, and present their own original interpretive programs based on the monument’s interpretive themes. These programs include walks, talks, and shuttle tours. Interns provide informal interpretation during fixed station and roving assignments.
Benefits:
- These positions are reimbursed $150 per week for meal and living expenses.
- Shared housing is provided at no expense. These are shared housing units and may be shared sleeping quarters.
- A travel allowance of up to $300 is provided.
- Interns are eligible to receive a Federal Lands Volunteer Pass at the completion of 500 hours of service.
- Internship qualifies for college credit at many educational institutions.
