This page contains up to date information on trail and towpath closures at Chesapeake and Ohio Canal NHP.  This page is updated on a regular basis.

As of November 16, 2008 the towpath is closed between milepost 12.28 at Anglers Inn to milepost 13.8 at the Stoplock. Please use the Berma Road as a detour. The towpath is closed as a result of damage received during the recent tropical storm "Hannah".

Mule-drawn canal boat rides have ended for the 2008 season. They will resume again in the spring of 2009. Please call the Great Falls Visitor Center at 301-767-3714 for more information.

As of November 16, 2008 Billy Goat Trail sections "A", "B", and "C" are open.

As of November 16, 2008 the towpath between Dam Four (MP 85) and McMahon's Mill (MP 88.10) is closed due to rock slides. Please use marked detours on local roads.

As of November 16, 2008 the towpath is closed to vehicle traffic at mile post 181.4.

As of November 16, 2008 the railroad crossing at Point of Rocks that leads to the boat ramp is closed. It is scheduled to reopen on Monday, November 17, 2008.

The new restroom facilities at Great Falls are now open to the public. The lower parking lot is closed to vehicle traffic.
