The pier at Bechers Bay, a contributing feature of the historic Vail-Vickers ranch complex, is deteriorated. The proposed undertaking would rehabilitate the failing pier to allow continued boat access to Santa Rosa Island. Built in the 1870s, the pier has been rebuilt several times. Major repairs occurred in 1913 and 1945 and the National Park Service repaired and strengthened the structure in 1987. Additional repairs were made in 2002, 2003, and 2004. The pier serves visitors and park operations.
