Ferry Rates (round trip)

Passenger ferries

Rates vary ($10 to $16 per adult, reduced for children) with the individual ferry service. Rates will also vary with the season (lower in summer, higher in winter). Contact the ferry directly for the current price. All rates quoted are for roundtrip fares. Passenger ferries are all privately operated.

Vehicle ferries

Passengers: $14 per adult

Vehicles: $75 per standard size (18 ½ ft. and under) vehicle. Larger vehicles cost more. Vehicle ferries are all operated under a concession contract. Contact the ferry directly for more information.

Beach Shuttles

From the cabin areas (Long Point only; not available from Great Island)

The concession operation offers 4-wheel drive shuttle service from the cabins. Cost is $3.50 per person per mile (2 person minimum) round trip. Contact the concession directly for more information.

From the Lighthouse area to the point of Cape Lookout

Four-wheel drive shuttle services generally operate  from the area of the Lighthouse down to the point of Cape Lookout. Price for service ranges from $10 to $15 per adult (minimum to run trucks - $40.00) roundtrip. (Check with the Harkers Island Visitor Center to see if the shuttles will operate in 2008.)

Did You Know?
Diamond City was a shore-based whaling community located where Barden Inlet now separates the islands of Shackleford Banks and South Core Banks. Crews would row whaling dories out from shore to chase the whales as they migrated past the island. Cape Lookout National Seashore
