Opportunities at Big South Fork
You can learn new skills, teach others and stay active and involved. Volunteers at Big South Fork help preserve and maintain the diverse natural, cultural and recreational resources of the park for today's visitors, as well as helping to preserve these same precious resources for future generations. Volunteers at Big South Fork play a vital role in almost all aspects of park operations:

• Assisting with special interpretive programs and events throughout the year.
• Removing non-native plants and helping to restore a more natural ecosystem.
• Working to maintain the parks network of hiking and horse back riding trails.
• Staying in the park campgrounds as Campground Hosts helping to assure visitors have safe and enjoyable experiences while at Big South Fork.

Volunteer opportunities at Big South Fork are as diverse as the natural and cultural resources of the park. History buffs, amateur naturalists, artists, students and many more people have found a place to share their skills at Big South Fork. Each volunteer's contribution makes a big difference!

Devils Jump Rapid is just below the site of the proposed dam.

Did You Know?
In the 1960's Congress requested the Army Corps of Engineers to study the feasibility of damming the Big South Fork of the Cumberland River just above the Devils Jump Rapid to create another reservoir. Had that happened Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area would never have existed.
